Rental Assistance: What can you do to help

Thousands of low‑income households depend on rental assistance through the Federal Community Housing Initiative (FCHI) and the Canada Community Housing Initiative (CCHI) to afford their co‑op housing charges. Both FCHI and CCHI are scheduled to end in March 2028. Without a federal commitment in Budget 2026 to renew these programs, thousands of low‑income co‑op households face the risk of unaffordable housing costs and potential displacement.

CHF Canada has launched a public‑facing, member‑engaging campaign, You Hold the Key: Protect Affordable Homes. Renew Rental Assistance Now, to call on the federal government to renew rental assistance programs that are essential to the sustainability of housing co‑ops across Canada.

What can you do to help:

We need more affordable homes, not fewer.

We need to act now.
