As we near the close of the year, we’ve been reflecting on all that we’ve achieved together.
NBCHC held its first Annual General Meeting on January 28th, 2025. In February 2025, we received official confirmation that our application for capacity funding through the Regional Development Corporation had been approved. This funding has been crucial in supporting the initial planning and operations of the co-op.
We have been hard at work on a project in Fredericton. To get us off to a good start, Regional Development Corporation approved our predevelopment application in March. The project includes 97 units on a 2.54-acre parcel of land, with initial drawings conceptualizing a four-level building with two elevators. Regular design meetings have helped refine key elements like the number of units, unit mix, meeting space options, and bicycle storage.
In September, with the support of The City of Fredericton, we finalized our ownership of the land at 75 Brown Boulevard in Fredericton. This marks a significant milestone in our development efforts and reflects the strength of our collaboration with the City.
Another big step forward this year was joining forces with three other provincial organizations: the New Brunswick Community Land Trust Co-operative, the New Brunswick Non-Profit Housing Association, and Housing Hub of New Brunswick to form the New Brunswick Community Housing Alliance. In August, we signed a shared Memorandum of Understanding to solidify our shared mission to promote safe, inclusive, sustainable, and at-cost housing across New Brunswick.
We look forward to making progress on all of these projects throughout 2026. We have officially begun the process of applying for charitable status, a significant step forward in our long-term growth strategy.
