New Brunswick Collaborative Housing Co-operative Ltd (NBCHC) is incorporated as a housing co-operative and combines the four critical success factors for a strong housing co-operative: good governance and strong management, support for development, strong community focus, and partnerships.

NBCHC is a sector-led housing co-op, a co-operative housing model that is guided and supported by organizations within the housing sector. The co-ops are designed to provide affordable, community-based housing solutions. Sector led co-ops receive guidance, resources, and support from co-operative organizations, which helps them operate effectively and sustainably

Non-Profit Housing Co-operative

It is incorporated as a non-profit housing co-operative. Co-ops offer affordability, security of tenure, diversity of members, and strong communities.

Asset Growth and Strong Board Governance

As the housing co-op continues to grow, the current assets will be used to support and advance the growth. It will own and maintain land and buildings in various neighbourhoods throughout the province. Having strong board governance, the provincial co-operative will provide benefits of scale to each of the neighbourhoods developed.

Member-Controlled Housing Communities

NBCHC takes a portfolio approach to developing and managing real estate. It centralizes key functions of asset management, while maintaining ground-level community engagement. 

NBCHC will operate with good governance under the international co-op principles. Housing co-ops share a common set of business principles to help to guide their development and operations. NBCHC is dedicated to developing strong housing communities that operate under the control of the members, for their mutual benefit on a not-for-profit basis.
